The mother and father are family pets with calm temperaments; they are both registered with the American Kennel Club. The parents are genetically tested to be free of hereditary health conditions. All puppies will come with AKC registration, dew claws removed, current shots, and will be vet checked. They are sure to get lots of love & attention and anything extra they may need. Our puppies get continuous care all through the night for the first few weeks, and as they get older, will be social with other dogs and people. They are born and raised in our home. We love to meet the families, so every puppy must be picked up in person. A deposit is required when you pick out your puppy to reserve them until they go home at 8 weeks old. I do have a long waiting list that I follow when it is time to reserve.
10 Tips for your New Basset Hound Puppy
1. We bed with newspaper & old carpet, so using newspaper may help them adjust or with potty training.
2. We have learned that many puppies bond with whomever spends the most time with it during the first hours after it leaves it's litter.
3. Your puppy needs to return to the vet at 9 weeks and 12 weeks old for distemper/parvo booster and rabies shots.
4. If your puppy will not eat after going home, try adding a little warm milk to his or her food.
5. Remember that they will grow to be at least 50lbs, so do not encourage behaviors in your puppy that you would discipline as an adult.
6. Clean your basset's ears at least once a month, or as your vet suggests.
7. Install a fence, or and underground fence, if they will be unsupervised outside for any length of time. They are hounds with strong stubborn noses.
8. Keep an eye on your basset's weight, as the breed can be prone to over-eating and obesity. Free feeding may not be an option for you.
9. Remember that they will be a puppy until almost 2 years old. They may look like a big dog, but they still have a puppy heart and mind.
